Companies / Stripe HIGH-SCALE PRODUCT & INFRASTRUCTURE
Stripe SRE / Platform Engineer interview questions Stripe holds infrastructure to a payments bar, which changes the questions. Correctness under retry, idempotency keys, exactly-once semantics that are really at-least-once plus deduplication, and audit trails that survive a regulator all show up in the design round. The company writes carefully and interviews for the same trait, so a written exercise or a design document review is common.
Company-specific hiring details on this page are retained preparation notes and have not been verified claim by claim for your role and location. Confirm round structure, timing and tool rules with your recruiter.

Role Infrastructure Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer
1 Recruiter screen Background and level calibration.
2 Technical screen Coding with attention to correctness and edge cases, plus systems questions.
3 Loop: systems design A design round where correctness under retry matters as much as scale. Idempotency, deduplication and reconciliation come up directly.
4 Loop: debugging A real diagnostic exercise, often working from logs and traces rather than a live shell.
5 Loop: written or document round Explaining a technical trade-off in writing, or walking through a design document. Clear written reasoning is assessed as an engineering skill.
6 Loop: values and collaboration How you handle disagreement and how you decide what not to build.

09
A busy proxy is failing to open new connections. TIME_WAIT is in the hundreds of thousands. What is happening? ▼ hard Cloudflare Google PhonePe 2 notes & comments unlocked
The classic ephemeral port exhaustion question. TIME_WAIT is a familiar phrase and the useful facts are narrower: which side accumulates it, and why the popular fix is dangerous.
18
Your service is collecting thousands of CLOSE_WAIT sockets. What does that state mean and how do you hunt the cause? ▼ hard ★ Essential Netflix Uber LinkedIn unlocked
A growing backlog of sockets waiting for the application to close its side usually points at lifecycle handling. Here is the hunt from ss output to the pool timeout that caused it.
21
How do you run tcpdump on a production host without making things worse, and what do you do with the capture? ▼ medium ★ Essential Cloudflare Netflix Datadog ○ sign in
The flags are the easy part. The scored part is proving you can capture on a saturated box without adding load, then read the file afterward like evidence.
33
Capture a TLS connection in tcpdump. What differs between the TLS 1.2 and 1.3 handshakes, and why does an ops person care? ▼ medium Stripe Cloudflare JPMorgan Chase ◆ premium
One round trip versus two is the headline, but the ops-relevant differences hide in what stays plaintext, how resumption works, and which middlewares the change broke.
43
Since the load balancer went in, every log line shows its IP. How do you recover the real client address? ▼ medium Cloudflare Stripe Datadog ◆ premium
X-Forwarded-For, PROXY protocol v1 and v2, and the trust boundaries between them. Get the layer wrong and your rate limiting, geo rules and audit trails all key off the balancer's address.
25
One event fans out to ten thousand Lambda invocations and the payments API behind them falls over. What is going on? ▼ hard ★ Essential Amazon & AWS Stripe Atlassian ○ sign in
Rapid function scaling can overwhelm a shared dependency. Concurrency limits, reserved capacity and queue buffering are the containment toolkit.
27
Explain envelope encryption. Why does nobody encrypt large data by calling KMS directly? ▼ hard JPMorgan Chase Stripe Snowflake ○ sign in
Direct encryption hits a 4 KB wall and a shared throughput quota. Envelope encryption routes around both, and the key policy underneath is central to authorizing key use.
38
An SSRF vulnerability in one of our services just exposed EC2 instance role credentials. Walk me through the attack and the defence. ▼ hard Stripe Goldman Sachs JPMorgan Chase ◆ premium
Instance metadata is a local credential vending machine and SSRF is the coin slot. IMDSv2 raises the bar at the host; layered defences and blast-radius limits finish the job.
44
Ship a risky schema change to a 2 TB Postgres primary with near-zero downtime. How does that actually work? ▼ hard ★ Essential PhonePe Stripe LinkedIn ◆ premium
Blue-green works for stateless apps because instances are disposable. Databases are shared state, so safe migrations ride on backward compatibility and an explicit rollback boundary.
27
A team wants to ditch HCL for Pulumi because they prefer TypeScript. Where do you agree, and where do you refuse? ▼ hard Stripe Databricks Snowflake ○ sign in
General-purpose IaC earns its complexity where application engineers own infrastructure and benefit from typed components and unit tests. It disappoints when the pitch was freedom: the engine still builds a graph, still keeps state, and still forbids most of the clever runtime logic people expect to write.
32
A single Terraform apply takes four hours and keeps hitting cloud API rate limits. What is actually broken, and what do you fix first? ▼ hard ★ Essential Uber Netflix Stripe ◆ premium
Four-hour applies with throttling errors share one root cause more often than not. Diagnose which calls burn the quota, split the state along dependency seams, and touch the parallelism flag last, not first.
40
A Terraform module passes every mocked test, but its first real apply fails. What did the tests prove, and what would you add? ▼ hard HashiCorp GitLab Databricks ◆ premium
A mock can confirm that a module requests private storage while missing the IAM denial that stops creation. Separate configuration contracts from provider behavior, and make the costly tests deliberate.
29
Envoy gets SIGTERM at the same instant as the app and requests drop mid-rollout. How does container ordering in a pod really work? ▼ medium ★ Essential Google Uber Stripe ◆ premium
Init containers are the easy half. The hard half is why plain sidecars race your app at both ends of the pod's life, and what restartPolicy Always changes about that.
45
Policy webhooks enforce our security rules. Should failurePolicy be Ignore or Fail, and what does each cost? ▼ medium Stripe JPMorgan Chase Salesforce ◆ premium
Fail protects the policy, Ignore protects availability, and every real answer starts with per-webhook threat model plus scoping. The canonical outage, a webhook that rejects its own restart, separates the people who have run this from those who read about it.
55
Every pod carries a credential to our API server. How does service account authentication actually work, and how would you lock it down? ▼ medium Stripe Netflix JPMorgan Chase ◆ premium
Pods authenticate with JWTs minted per-pod now, not eternal Secrets. The scored answer separates authentication from authorization, explains audience binding, and treats automount as opt-in rather than ambient.
61
Sidecar proxies cost us real memory per pod. Do ambient and Cilium-style meshes actually remove that cost, and what do they trade? ▼ medium Salesforce Stripe SAP ◆ premium
Yes, the proxy moves: one L4 agent per node, eBPF in-kernel, waypoints only where L7 policy demands. The scored answer quantifies the sidecar bill, compares where each architecture lands the proxy, and names migration risks.
08
Blue-green, canary or rolling for a payments API: pick one and defend the resource and rollback trade-off. ▼ medium ★ Essential Stripe Razorpay Salesforce 2 notes & comments unlocked
Compare rollout capacity, traffic exposure and state compatibility, then work through a payments canary with too little evidence to promote.
11
Ship a schema change to a live service with no downtime. Walk me through the sequence. ▼ hard ★ Essential Stripe Shopify GitLab 2 notes & comments unlocked
Sequence a compatible column migration, reconcile concurrent writes, and identify when returning to the old application starts requiring data repair.
13
Design the test strategy for a pipeline that must stay under ten minutes. What runs where? ▼ hard ★ Essential GitLab Shopify Atlassian 2 notes & comments unlocked
Testing is a pipeline design problem in this role, not a QA one. The constraint is the question: you cannot run everything on every commit, so what you choose to defer is the answer.
14
Push or pull for deployments? Explain what pull actually removes from your threat model. ▼ medium ★ Essential GitLab Atlassian Stripe 2 notes & comments unlocked
The security argument for GitOps is more specific than 'Git is the source of truth'. Pull deployment can remove cluster credentials from CI, and that single fact is most of the case.
18
You deploy to production ten times a day. Does semantic versioning even mean anything for you? ▼ easy Atlassian Stripe Swiggy unlocked
Connect version numbers to consumer promises, then test an additive API change against older clients and distinguish release metadata from artifact identity.
25
Two engineers run the same build and get different dependency trees. Where do lockfiles fit in fixing this? ▼ easy GitLab Atlassian Stripe ○ sign in
Same commit, different dependency trees: the vocabulary answer is lockfiles, the practitioner answer includes frozen installs, integrity hashes and pinned toolchains.
27
A stranger opens a pull request from their fork. What can that PR execute in your pipeline, and where does pull_request_target go wrong? ▼ hard ★ Essential Cloudflare GitLab Stripe ○ sign in
Public fork PRs normally get a read-only token and no repository secrets. Privileged triggers, runner access and untrusted shell input can break that boundary.
34
Release notes are a wiki page nobody updates. How would you automate them from conventional commits? ▼ easy Stripe Atlassian Red Hat ◆ premium
Changelogs fail because discipline lives in people instead of gates. Enforce commit convention at merge time, generate at tag time, and know what automation cannot write.
52
Preview environments are easy until the first one needs a database and a payment provider. How do you handle that? ▼ hard GitLab Atlassian Stripe 2 notes & comments ◆ premium
Deploying the application per pull request is a solved problem. Giving it data it can work against, and dependencies it can call, is where these projects stall and where the data-protection incident lives.
05
Design a chaos engineering programme. What do you inject first, and how do you avoid causing the outage you were preventing? ▼ hard Netflix Uber Datadog 3 notes & comments unlocked
Defining chaos engineering is easy. Far fewer can say what they would break first, and almost none volunteer the abort condition, which is the thing that makes it a programme rather than an incident.
07
On-call is drowning in alerts and starting to ignore them. Redesign the alerting. ▼ hard Google LinkedIn Netflix 2 notes & comments unlocked
Alert fatigue is a design failure, not a discipline failure. The fix is a rule about what may page at all, and burn-rate alerting is how you implement it.
09
A request crosses six services and you have no idea where the time goes. How does tracing fix that? ▼ medium Datadog Uber Stripe 2 notes & comments unlocked
Tracing is the only telemetry that answers where the time went across services. The mechanism is context propagation, and the reason teams fail at it is that one uninstrumented hop breaks the chain.
12
You are building a new service. What do you instrument on day one so the first incident is diagnosable? ▼ medium Google Stripe LinkedIn unlocked
Day-one telemetry is cheap and retrofitting it costs an incident. The answer that scores names the linking layer (trace IDs in logs, exemplars on metrics) that turns three tools into one story.
17
Pick a trace-sampling strategy for our checkout service and defend it. ▼ medium ★ Essential Datadog Stripe LinkedIn unlocked
Choose what evidence must survive, then price the collection path. A tail policy can only inspect traces that reach it; low SDK sampling changes the guarantee before the collector sees a span.
27
Walk me through facilitating the post-incident review after a severe outage. How do you keep it blameless but not toothless? ▼ medium Google Netflix Goldman Sachs ○ sign in
Facilitation is mechanics: timeline before theories, blame converted into system questions, actions with owners tracked to closure. Include the defensive engineer and the exec who wants a head.
33
Our platform's users are other engineers. What does an SLO even mean when the customer is another team? ▼ medium Google Stripe LinkedIn ◆ premium
Internal platforms hide a trap: the direct user is an engineer, but the real traffic belongs to their customers. Define SLIs from the consumer's vantage and turn the error budget into roadmap currency.
41
Your service now calls a model API on the critical path. How do your SLOs change? ▼ hard Stripe Datadog Salesforce 2 notes & comments ◆ premium
You have added a dependency with a latency distribution an order of magnitude wider than anything else in your stack, whose failure mode is a plausible wrong answer rather than an error.
44
Your architecture is queues and consumers. The golden signals assume request and response. Now what? ▼ hard Uber Netflix Stripe 2 notes & comments ◆ premium
There is no status code and no caller waiting, so latency and error rate stop meaning what they meant. The signals that replace them are age, lag and completion, and they answer a question the request-response set never had to ask.
06
Your p99 latency is three seconds while the average is two hundred milliseconds. Where do you look? ▼ hard Google Datadog Stripe 2 notes & comments unlocked
A senior favourite, because the naive answer is to look at averages and the average is exactly what is hiding the problem. Tail latency has a short list of causes and they are all structural.
30
Auth tokens verify on some replicas and fail on others, seemingly at random. Someone blames clock skew. Make the case. ▼ hard Stripe Razorpay LinkedIn ◆ premium
Load balancing makes a per-host fault look like a flaky library. The exact rejection string tells you which way the offending clock leans before you log into anything.
33
After a routine certificate rotation, one service pair fails mTLS with unknown authority while everyone else works. Find the break. ▼ hard Stripe JPMorgan Chase Razorpay ◆ premium
The leaf is valid and the root is trusted, yet verification fails. The gap lives in the middle of the chain, and the exact verify code names it before you open a single config file.
39
The secrets manager blipped for ten minutes overnight, and applications restarting hours later are still failing. Explain the cascade. ▼ medium Salesforce JPMorgan Chase Stripe ◆ premium
The outage window closed, but every process born since then still tries to fetch secrets at boot with nothing to fall back on. Why restarts keep reopening an incident that already ended.
42
New connections to one partner API fail at peak, only through the NAT gateway, while established flows sail on. What is the ceiling? ▼ expert Amazon & AWS Microsoft Stripe ◆ premium
Bandwidth graphs look healthy and the partner swears they are fine. The wall is ports, not bits: the available source-port budget depends on the gateway and its address allocation.
50
Twice a year, on two predictable Sundays, some scheduled jobs skip and others fire twice. Diagnose without waiting for autumn. ▼ easy Microsoft Salesforce Uber ◆ premium
Wall-clock schedules meet daylight-saving transitions: spring forward deletes an hour of cron targets, fall back repeats one. Schedule in UTC, add idempotency keys, rehearse in staging.
57
An internal agent ran overnight and spent four months of the team's model budget. Contain it and explain it. ▼ hard Atlassian Salesforce Stripe 2 notes & comments ◆ premium
A loop with no step cap has no natural ceiling, and runaway spending keeps accruing while you investigate. Stop the spend first, then find out what it was doing.
63
Customers cannot use the app, every health check is green, and the load balancer is happily sending traffic. Find the gap. ▼ medium Stripe Netflix Razorpay ◆ premium
A health endpoint that returns 200 because the process is running tells you the process is running. Interviewers want to hear where you draw the line between a check that pages and a check that removes traffic.
67
You rolled back the bad deploy and the error rate got worse. What did the rollback break? ▼ hard Stripe Amazon & AWS Razorpay ◆ premium
Code rolled back and the database did not. The old version is now running against a schema it has never seen, and that is a worse incident than the one you were trying to end.
05
Implement zero trust inside a Kubernetes cluster. What does it mean beyond turning on mTLS? ▼ hard JPMorgan Chase Goldman Sachs Razorpay 3 notes & comments unlocked
Workload authentication, traffic encryption and authorization need separate verification. Admission and RBAC constrain who can deploy a workload that bypasses those controls.
06
An AWS key was committed to a public repo two hours ago. Walk me through the next hour. ▼ medium ★ Essential JPMorgan Chase Razorpay GitLab 2 notes & comments unlocked
An incident response question wearing a Git costume. The wrong instinct is to rewrite history first, and it costs you the hour that matters.
07
Your CI stores a long-lived cloud access key. Replace it, and explain what the replacement actually proves. ▼ hard ★ Essential GitLab Stripe JPMorgan Chase 2 notes & comments unlocked
The single highest-value security change available to most pipelines, and the reason it works is worth understanding rather than configuring. It removes the secret rather than protecting it.
15
Why should a DevOps engineer care about the OWASP Top 10 if they never write the frontend? ▼ medium Stripe Razorpay Swiggy unlocked
Reciting injection classes you cannot fix is the trap. The scored move maps each risk category to a lever an ops or platform engineer owns, from response headers to metadata endpoints.
23
Your admins can delete the audit logs covering their own actions. How do you make the trail tamper-evident? ▼ medium JPMorgan Chase Goldman Sachs Stripe ○ sign in
Tamper evidence is an architecture property, not a log setting. Off-box forwarding, append-only storage under separate credentials, hash chains and a verification job that actually runs.
30
The pentest report just landed with 40 findings. How do you triage it, and what timelines do you commit to? ▼ medium JPMorgan Chase Stripe Infosys ◆ premium
A pentest report is evidence, not a backlog. Triage by exploitability and blast radius, reproduce before you believe, commit to deadlines you can defend, and publish the burn-down so the dates are yours.
33
Encryption at rest is switched on everywhere. Where does that checkbox fall short, and how would you design keys properly? ▼ hard ★ Essential Stripe JPMorgan Chase PhonePe ◆ premium
Trace who can read ciphertext, who can decrypt it and who can administer the keys. Key rotation, rewrapping and data re-encryption solve different problems.
41
A model's output feeds a shell command, a SQL query and a web page. What is your threat model? ▼ expert Cloudflare GitHub Microsoft 2 notes & comments ◆ premium
Model output is attacker-influenced data by construction, because the model reads attacker-influenced input. Every rule you already apply to user input applies here, and teams forget because the text came from a system they built.
02
Why would you put a queue between two services? What does it actually buy, and what does it cost? ▼ easy New Amazon & AWS Stripe Swiggy unlocked
It converts a synchronous failure into a delay. That is the whole benefit and the whole cost, because the caller now gets an answer before the work has happened and somebody has to tell them when it did.
04
Design multi-region active-active for a tier-1 API. What breaks, and what does it cost? ▼ hard ★ Essential Netflix Stripe Uber 2 notes & comments unlocked
The design round where the honest answer is mostly about data. Stateless traffic across regions is straightforward; the database is where active-active is either solved or pretended.
05
A payments monolith releases monthly and scaling means buying hardware. Design the migration. ▼ hard ★ Essential JPMorgan Chase Razorpay SAP 2 notes & comments unlocked
The migration question, and the trap is answering with a target architecture. What is being scored is sequencing: how you get there without a rewrite and without a release freeze.
10
Design rate limiting for a public API: what algorithm, where does it live, and what happens when the limiter itself fails? ▼ hard ★ Essential Stripe Cloudflare Datadog unlocked
Everyone names token bucket. The scored part is the rest: drift between nodes, the 429 contract with clients, and whether your quota service should fail open or closed.
14
A payment request times out at the gateway, so the client retries. Design the API so money moves exactly once. ▼ hard ★ Essential Stripe JPMorgan Chase Goldman Sachs unlocked
Timeouts guarantee uncertainty, not failure: the first request may have succeeded after the client gave up. The idempotency key pattern is the industry answer; the scored details are storage, expiry and concurrency.
16
Design the webhook platform that tells merchants when payments settle. Their endpoint is down. What happens? ▼ hard Stripe Razorpay GitLab unlocked
Outbound delivery looks like a queue and a loop until one subscriber hangs for sixty seconds and takes your workers with it. Isolation, retry horizons, and signatures are where the marks are.
25
Design an audit log for a regulated bank: every admin action recorded, and nobody, including your own team, can quietly rewrite it. ▼ medium JPMorgan Chase Goldman Sachs Stripe ○ sign in
Never-delete is a policy, not a control. Auditors and attackers both want to know what stops an admin with broad credentials, and the answer has to be mechanical.
31
PSP settlement files and your internal ledger never fully agree. Design reconciliation that finds and fixes every break. ▼ hard ★ Essential Razorpay PhonePe Stripe ◆ premium
Listing the match job is table stakes. The scored material is the breaks taxonomy, the suspense account, and why every match must be replayable from immutable raw files.
39
Design metering for usage-based pricing: billions of usage events become invoices customers dispute line by line. ▼ hard ★ Essential Stripe Snowflake Amazon & AWS ◆ premium
A disputed invoice needs a reproducible calculation. Retain raw usage events and versioned pricing so each line can be explained and corrected.
43
Forty teams want to call models. Design the gateway that sits between them and the providers. ▼ expert Stripe Salesforce Atlassian 2 notes & comments ◆ premium
Without one, every team implements its own retries, its own key handling, its own logging policy, and nobody can answer what the company spends or what a model change would break.
45
Design the system that decides on its own whether a canary is healthy enough to promote. ▼ hard Netflix Google Stripe ◆ premium
Comparing the canary against last week is how a Tuesday afternoon looks like a regression. Compare it against a baseline running the same traffic at the same moment, and decide with a threshold somebody can defend.
46
Two hundred services share a database platform and every migration is a nervous Thursday. Design the tooling. ▼ hard Stripe GitLab Razorpay ◆ premium
Most migrations are safe and a handful can take the site down by holding a lock for eight seconds. Build the tooling to tell those apart automatically, because a review culture cannot do it two hundred times a month.
55
Two hundred services exchange events and a field rename broke nine consumers last week. Design schema evolution. ▼ medium LinkedIn Stripe Swiggy ◆ premium
A published event is an API with no version negotiation and consumers you cannot enumerate. The design is a registry that refuses an incompatible change at publish time, because after publication your options are all bad.
08
Leadership wants proof cloud spend is efficient. Why report cost per transaction instead of percentage savings? ▼ medium Stripe Uber Netflix unlocked
Percentage savings make every quarter look like a win and tell you almost nothing. A denominator tied to revenue is the one that survives scrutiny, because it is the only one a finance conversation can act on.
10
Our multi-region architecture quietly doubled the networking bill. Where is the money going? ▼ medium Cloudflare Netflix Flipkart unlocked
Data transfer appears on nobody's architecture diagram and reliably appears on the invoice. The strong answer enumerates the taxed flows, ranks the levers, and knows which tax is worth paying.
12
Where does serverless pricing actually bite, and when do functions beat VMs on cost? ▼ easy Amazon & AWS Stripe Razorpay unlocked
Pay-per-use sounds free until the invoice arrives. The useful method is to decompose the bill into invocations, gigabyte-seconds and the lines nobody models, then locate the honest crossover rather than arguing about it.
16
An AI feature shipped and the model bill grew 8x in a month. How do you get control without turning it off? ▼ hard Stripe Salesforce Uber 2 notes & comments unlocked
Token spend has no natural ceiling. Every retry, every retrieved document, every chain step multiplies, and nothing in the system tells anyone until the invoice arrives.
18
One customer's batch job is making your interactive chat slow. Fix it at the serving layer. ▼ hard Databricks Salesforce Stripe 2 notes & comments unlocked
Both workloads are legitimate and they want opposite things from the same GPU. Combine tenant rate limits with fair admission and measured capacity reservations; separate fleets are an option when shared scheduling cannot meet the targets.
23
Downstream automation needs valid JSON every time. How do you get it, and what does it cost? ▼ hard Stripe Salesforce Snowflake 2 notes & comments ○ sign in
Asking nicely in the prompt gets you most of the way and fails on the tail, which is where the automation breaks. Constrained decoding can guarantee the shape of completed output for supported schemas. Interrupted generations still need a failure path, and compilation has a latency cost.
27
Your product depends on a model API and the provider has a regional outage. What did you build beforehand? ▼ hard Stripe Cloudflare Uber 2 notes & comments ○ sign in
A model provider is a single dependency with a shared failure domain across every customer they have. Treating it like a database you cannot fail over from is how a product goes down for four hours.
28
Define the SLIs and SLOs for a streaming LLM endpoint. Why is p99 latency the wrong headline metric? ▼ hard Databricks NVIDIA Datadog 2 notes & comments ○ sign in
A request that streams for ninety seconds is not slow, it is long. Total latency mixes the part users wait for with the part they read, and an SLO built on it will page you for success.
31
You need prompt and response logs to debug an AI feature, and legal says no. How do you resolve it? ▼ hard Stripe Salesforce Atlassian 2 notes & comments ◆ premium
Prompts contain whatever the user typed, which in a support product is names, account numbers and medical detail. Full-text logging is a data-protection decision, not a debugging preference.
32
How do you detect that a model in production got worse, when nothing in your infrastructure metrics changed? ▼ expert Databricks Datadog Microsoft 2 notes & comments ◆ premium
Latency is flat, errors are zero, and the answers are worse. Quality regression is invisible to every metric a platform team normally owns, which is why it needs its own pipeline.
42
Your team wants an AI agent that can open pull requests and trigger deploys. What is the risk model? ▼ hard ★ Essential GitLab Google Stripe 2 notes & comments ◆ premium
A release-automation design question with a specific trust boundary. The novel risk is prompt injection: untrusted text reaching a privileged agent, where the text is the instruction and your usual input validation does not apply.
47
Build the cost model for serving your own open-weight model versus paying an API per token. Where is the break-even? ▼ hard Databricks Snowflake Stripe 2 notes & comments ◆ premium
Per-token pricing looks expensive until you compute what an idle GPU costs at 3am. Break-even depends on workload volume and duty cycle, measured throughput, and the engineering cost on both sides.
04
Tell me about an outage you owned. ▼ medium ★ Essential Amazon Google Netflix 3 notes & comments unlocked
An incident answer needs your actual decisions, the evidence behind them and the effect on users. A wrong turn belongs in the story only if it happened.
05
Tell me about a time you disagreed with a technical decision and lost. ▼ medium ★ Essential Amazon Google Atlassian 2 notes & comments unlocked
Explain a technical disagreement you lost, how you supported the chosen implementation and which evidence would justify reopening the decision.
06
What is the biggest technical mistake you have made, and what happened afterwards? ▼ medium Amazon Netflix Google 2 notes & comments unlocked
Prepare an accountable account of a technical mistake: disclosure, recovery decisions, a tested prevention measure and the residual risk.
18
Tell me about harsh criticism you received in a performance review. What did you change as a result? ▼ medium Meta Google LinkedIn unlocked
Turn difficult feedback into a testable improvement, while checking its factual basis and keeping unfair or inappropriate treatment separate.
19
A teammate keeps merging changes that skip tests and rubber-stamp reviews. How do you handle it? ▼ medium GitLab Atlassian Stripe ○ sign in
Address repeated test and review bypasses through verified evidence, immediate risk containment and a repair that preserves the required coverage.
21
Tell me about an AI feature you shipped that did not work as promised. What did you do? ▼ medium Salesforce Microsoft Atlassian 2 notes & comments ○ sign in
Explain an AI feature failure through its promised outcome, observed quality gap, bounded recovery and the evidence needed for another release.
22
Reliability work keeps losing to features. How do you change that? ▼ medium Google Stripe Uber 2 notes & comments ○ sign in
Build a reliability proposal with observed impact, uncertain risk, implementation cost and a verification plan that supports an explicit priority decision.
26
A teammate's change caused the outage and they are in the postmortem. How do you write and run it? ▼ hard Google Netflix Stripe ○ sign in
Write an accurate incident review that examines the triggering action and contributing conditions, with corrective actions whose effectiveness can be checked.
27
Tell me about a change you shipped that you could not roll back. How did you decide to go ahead? ▼ hard Amazon & AWS Stripe Goldman Sachs ○ sign in
Defend a change with irreversible effects by separating code rollback, data recovery and external correction, with explicit recovery objectives and tested limits.
34
You are four hours into a customer-visible outage with no fix in sight. What are you telling customers, and how often? ▼ medium Cloudflare Stripe Atlassian ◆ premium
Publish useful outage updates with verified impact, explicit unknowns and a next-update time, while keeping account-specific details in the right channel.
38
You caused a brief production problem and nobody noticed. Do you report it? ▼ medium Google Stripe Netflix ◆ premium
Report an unnoticed production problem promptly through the right channel, distinguish actual impact from a near miss and verify the control or detection gap it reveals.

09
The pipeline says the deploy succeeded, but users still see the old version. Find it. ▼ medium GitLab Atlassian Meta 2 notes & comments unlocked
A deceptively deep question, because there are at least six places a version can get stuck and they span the pipeline, the cluster and the edge. Work the path in order.
14
Walk me through hardening a server, from fresh install to production-ready. ▼ easy IBM Accenture TCS unlocked
Experienced answers are ordered and verifiable: minimal base, benchmark applied as code, identity and exposure next, then continuous proof it stayed that way. Checklists recited out of order are the tell.
06
What is an artifact repository manager, and why use Artifactory or Nexus instead of public registries? ▼ easy New JPMorgan Chase Oracle Infosys unlocked
Compare proxy, hosted and group repositories. Trace a tested artifact into production, and understand when a cache can keep builds running during an upstream outage.
06
An e-commerce platform takes 10x traffic during flash sales and the database locks up. Fix it. ▼ hard ★ Essential Flipkart Swiggy Amazon 2 notes & comments unlocked
The Indian e-commerce interview question, and autoscaling is the wrong first answer. A 10x spike arriving in seconds outruns any scaling loop, so the design has to absorb rather than scale.
01
Walk me through the stages of a CI/CD pipeline you have built. ▼ easy New Accenture Infosys TCS unlocked
The opener in most DevOps interviews, and the one most people answer as a list of nouns. What earns the follow-up is saying what each stage is allowed to fail for and how long it takes.
02
What is a Jenkinsfile, and what is the difference between declarative and scripted pipelines? ▼ easy New TCS Infosys Accenture unlocked
Pipeline as code moved the build definition into the repository, where it is reviewed and versioned with the thing it builds. Declarative is the default answer, and knowing when scripted still earns its place is the follow-up.
03
How do you manage Jenkins plugins and upgrade a Jenkins that half the company depends on? ▼ easy New TCS Infosys Goldman Sachs unlocked
Jenkins is mostly plugins, they have a dependency graph nobody drew, and the controller is a single point of failure for every team. The answer is a rehearsal against a copy of production, not a maintenance window and hope.
04
SAST, DAST, SCA and IAST: where does each belong in a pipeline, and what can none of them see? ▼ medium JPMorgan Chase Goldman Sachs Razorpay 2 notes & comments unlocked
Easy to define and easy to fail. The scoring half is where each gate sits, what it does to build time, and the honest admission of what the whole set misses.

STRIPE INTERVIEW FAQ
What is the Stripe SRE / Platform Engineer interview process? ▲
Infrastructure Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer. Stages: Recruiter screen → Technical screen → Loop: systems design → Loop: debugging → Loop: written or document round → Loop: values and collaboration. Key focus: Treats a duplicate side effect as a correctness bug, not a retry detail. Compiled from public reports; loops change over time, so confirm the exact rounds with your recruiter.
What is different about interviewing at a payments company? ▼
